Tuesday, November 3, 2009, 7:30 to 9 a.m.
Spangler Center, Harvard Business School

Sponsored by Allston Village Main Streets, this annual business breakfast hosted by Harvard Business School's Spangler Center pays tribute to Allston's namesake, painter and poet Washington Allston. Past speakers have included Boston Globe photographer Bill Brett, NPR personality Bill Littlefield, and writer Greg Lehane.

The work of local artists is displayed at the breakfast, in preperation for the Allston/Brighton Open Studios which takes place in November of each year.

The event is a benefit for Allston Village Main Streets.

Keynote speaker, Daniel Kenary, 49, serves as President of the Harpoon Brewery.  He graduated with Rich Doyle (Harpoon CEO and Co-Founder) from Harvard College in 1982 with a degree in American History.  He earned an MBA from the University of Chicago in 1985 while working at the First National Bank of Chicago in Chicago and Paris.  Dan left the bank in 1986 to co-found the Harpoon Brewery with Rich.  During a six-year hiatus from the brewery from 1990 until 1996, Dan worked as Chief Financial Officer at two biotechnology firms in the Boston area while remaining active on the board of Harpoon.  Dan served on the Institute of Brewing Studies Board of Advisors, as a director and treasurer of Save the Harbor/Save the Bay, a local environmental advocacy organization, as president of the Boston Marine Park Business Association, and as president of the Massachusetts Brewers Guild.  He is currently Assistant Treasurer and serves on the Executive Committee of the Associated Industries of Massachusetts.  Originally from Worcester, Dan lives in Wellesley with his wife and four children.

Founded in 1986 on the Boston waterfront, the Harpoon Brewery distributes its beer throughout the eastern United States and is the 12th largest craft brewery in the country, selling more than 130,000 barrels of beer in 2009.  The brewery’s line of craft beer features four year-round beers, including its award-winning Harpoon IPA., UFO Hefeweizen, four seasonal selections, and the 100 Barrel and Leviathan Series of specialty beers.  In June 2000, the Harpoon Brewery purchased the former Catamount Brewery in Windsor, Vermont and now produces more then 40% of its beer in the Green Mountain state.  In 1996 and 1997 Harpoon was listed on Inc. Magazine’s list of the fastest growing 500 companies in America.  For information on Brewery Tours and events, call 1-888-HARPOON or visit www.harpoonbrewery.com.
